Getting the right size glasses is key for both comfort and how they look on your face. We'll guide you through how to find your ideal fit, so you can shop confidently.
Choosing the correct size for your glasses is essential for your comfort and overall appearance. Whether you’re browsing online or in-store, knowing the right size ensures your glasses not only look great but feel great too. Not sure which size is right for you? Here’s a quick guide on how to measure your glasses size and get the best fit:
The size of the frame is crucial. If the frame is too wide or too narrow, your glasses could slip or feel uncomfortable. A good rule of thumb is to match the frame width to your face width. For certain styles like cateye or butterfly frames, these may run slightly larger, whereas slimmer designs might need to be narrower.
The bridge of the glasses needs to fit comfortably on your nose. The bridge width is measured between the lenses, and it’s vital for keeping your glasses in place. If the bridge doesn’t fit properly, your glasses may sit too high or low, affecting your vision and comfort.
Lenses that are too small can limit your field of vision, while larger lenses might not suit your face. The width of the lenses should complement the size of your face, with the ideal viewing point sitting in the top third of the glasses. Your eyebrows should remain visible above the frame.
The temple length (arms) affects how securely your glasses sit on your ears. If the temples are too short, they can cause pressure and discomfort. If they’re too long, the glasses might slip. The arms can often be adjusted to ensure a perfect fit.
If you are already wearing well-fitting glasses but are looking for a new pair, you can use the current model as a basis for measuring and determine the size of your glasses in two ways. The third option is also suitable for calculating your size without glasses.
You can read the frame size on the inside temple or on the inside of the bridge. However, you can read three other measurements in millimetres on the glasses of many manufacturers, for example: "55 □ 18 145" (lens width □ bridge width temple length). Important: This information should not be confused with the width of the glasses, although these can be very similar.
If you are already wearing a frame shape similar to your desired model (e.g. square), this will give you an indication of the perfect width for you. In this case, you can simply use a ruler to measure along the upper frame line from one outer edge of the frame to the other.
Note: Your favorite can deviate up to ±2 mm from your current width. Therefore, our filter automatically takes into account all glasses whose widths are up to 2 mm smaller or larger than your input. For example: If you wear square glasses with a width of 138 mm, you can be sure that all square glasses with a width of 136 - 140 mm will also fit you comfortably.
Admittedly, this sounds a bit crazy, but in practice it actually works well for anyone who wants to find out their glasses size without a previous model. Here's how it works:
Step 1: Use a standard credit card measuring 85.60 mm x 53.98 mm.
Step 2: Stand in front of the mirror and place the card upright along your nose. Make sure that the longer edge is in the middle of your nose.
Step 3: Where does the other upper corner of the card end?
Far beyond the end of the eye: Choose a smaller size (width 47 - 49 mm).
At the end of the eye: then medium-sized glasses (width 50 - 52 mm) will fit you best.
Before the end of the eye: You need large glasses from 53 mm.
The frame should contrast with your face shape and shouldn’t be wider than your cheekbones.
Glasses should sit comfortably on your nose without sliding down.
The arms should rest snugly behind your ears, without causing pressure.
You should be able to see through the top third of the lenses without the glasses feeling heavy.
Yes! Some glasses styles, like cateye or aviators, are designed to be a little wider.
Sunglasses, in particular, may have larger frames for better UV protection.
Flexible frames can also accommodate a snugger fit without discomfort, and frameless designs tend to look good even in smaller sizes.
