What do I need to know about varifocals?

Varifocals combine three prescriptions in one lens in order to correct age-related long-sightedness. Three different parts of the lens cater for far distance, middle distance and near sights. These three fields of vision flow into each other, with some soft focus at the edges of each field. Varifocal lenses are also available with an expanded field of vision – these lenses have smaller areas of soft focus and therefore have a 40% larger field of vision overall than standard varifocals.

Standard lenses and premium lensesHow do varifocals work?

Varifocal size

Varifocal lenses need to be a specific size so that they can comfortably integrate near and distance vision. Therefore, not all frames will be suitable for varifocal lenses. For example, very narrow frames should not be chosen.
